Muay Thai’de Avrupa Şampiyonu Olmak Futbolda Başarısızlıkla Sonuçlandı.

Erciyes University (ERU) Faculty of Sports Sciences 4th grade student, 21-year-old Nadiye Özdemir, who lives in Kayseri, started her sports life with football.

Unable to achieve success in football, Özdemir turned to muay thai sports 3 years ago. Özdemir, who entered a busy working pace during the past period, won the gold medal at the European Championship held in Ankara between March 21-28.

Özdemir explained the starting process of her sports career.

“I started my sports life with football. After I failed to achieve any success in football after entering university, I wanted to switch to another sport, and I decided on this sport. I have been doing this sport for 3 years. We have training sessions 3 days a week for 2 hours in the evenings. During the match season, this program changes. These trainings are spread over every day as the matches approach.”

Özdemir talked about the championship.

“The championship took place in Ankara between 21-28 March. There were 540 athletes from 26 countries in this competition. I won the 1st place medal in this competition. At first, there is excitement. After winning the match, the burden on us is lifted. A relief comes. The National Anthem being played on the podium affected me a lot. My next goal is to participate in the competition held in Morocco and become the World Champion.”

Özdemir referred to the reaction of her family.

“When I started this sport, my father did not support me because he could not stand the thought of it. My mother said, ‘if you want to do it, do it. I’m behind you.’ When my father saw that I was successful and I was not being pushed around, he started to support me as well. I can say that he currently supports me more than my mother. When I became a champion, my family was very happy. My family is proud of me. They were very happy.”

Özdemir gave advice to her peers.

“It may be a little late for women my age because I started this sport a little late. There are some difficulties with that. But success increases self-confidence. There is no happiness without success. It is a beautiful sport, I recommend it to everyone.”
